Every year all across Australia thousands of volunteers within the State Emergency Services don their uniform and help those who need help the most. We all have our normal mundane 9-5 jobs but underneath our bland office clothing we all harbour a big dirty orange secret!
You’ve seen us on TV, and running the Sausage Sizzle at your local Bunnings, you’ve seen us in the harshest of conditions jumping on roofs and you’ve seen us in the distance descending into caves, or even helping Police at large scale traffic incidents. We even help with humanitarian aid for the Red Cross and RFDS!
Once a year we celebrate all things orange by wearing our uniform to work (if allowed) or our families celebrate what we do by wearing something orange throughout the day. We all harbour secret fantasies our wearing our orange under our uniform (all the greatest superheroes do!) but on the 22nd of May 20019 we wear our orange on the outside!
Our great land is filled by wonderful people who sacrifice their time for our local communities. We are the electrician who installed the new power points in your house, we’re the ones that gave you a much-needed massage on Mother’s Day. We’re body builders, professional athletes, military personnel, Police Officers, Prison Officers, mobile phone technicians, imaging specialists, registered nurses, government officials, repairman, FIFO, Paramedics, OH & S advisors, we are everywhere!
So, if you want to support your family, friends or random strangers on the 22nd of May do so with pride! Take a selfie and share it to social media using the hashtag #ThankYouSES and #TwoRocksSES
In Western Australia look out for some very special events happening throughout the metro and regional areas, last year Elizabeth Quay, Perth Concert Hall, Bell Tower and many more places were decorated in orange in support for our SES volunteers!
What will you do?
